APIE Camp #08 UNSRAT 2025

From November 17–21, 2025, four ICN Lab members — Yoga Raditya Nala, Vincentia Melody Vivianne, Akbar Fikri Abdillah, and Maritza Aliyya Devy — had the opportunity to attend APIE Camp #8, hosted at Universitas Sam Ratulangi (UNSRAT) in Manado, Indonesia. The five-day program brought together 16 participants from 7 institutions across Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and Vietnam. This edition marked an important milestone, as UNSRAT's involvement completed APIE's presence across all five SOI Asia partner universities in Indonesia. The camp was organized by SOI Asia and supported by the APNIC Foundation.

The program followed a structured curriculum designed to simulate real-world Internet engineering environments, with participants building and managing complete network infrastructure from the ground up throughout the week.

Day 1: Network Deployment The camp opened with the fundamentals of Internet engineering. Guided by instructors from UNSRAT, participants completed hands-on activities covering network cabling and physical setup, IP addressing and topology design, VLAN configuration, WLAN setup, and OSPF routing.

Day 2: Network Virtualization & Network Security Students worked with hypervisors and virtual machines, explored Linux fundamentals and system configuration, and learned to harden routers and public-facing servers while implementing basic network monitoring techniques.

Day 3: DNS Setup Guided by an APNIC instructor, participants configured DNS servers, zones, and records, then tested DNS resolution and performance to ensure reliability and redundancy across the network.

Day 4: IoT & Cloud Computing The day explored IoT systems and cloud platforms through deploying IoT devices and sensors, processing real-world data streams, and implementing cloud-based applications using AWS.

Day 5: Industry Visit & Final Presentations Participants visited Telin's headquarters in Manado, gaining firsthand insights into real-world network operations and infrastructure at scale. The day concluded with team presentations and a treasure hunt challenge, followed by a closing ceremony where participants received their Certificates of Participation.

The experience offered ICN Lab members not only a deep technical grounding in Internet engineering, but also the opportunity to build meaningful cross-border connections with peers and mentors from across the Asia-Pacific region. May their participation in APIE Camp #8 serve as a stepping stone to greater achievements in the world of information technology
