APIE Camp #09 UB 2026

From March 30 to April 3, 2026, five ICN Lab members Muhammad Omar Haqqi, Adinda Yulia Safitri, Izzah Faiq Putri Madani, Ahmad Nafi Mubarok, and Nizar Maulana Wahyudi participated in APIE Camp #9, held at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Malang, Indonesia. The five day program welcomed students from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, reflecting the program's continued regional expansion. Led by SOI Asia with UB serving as the host institution, this edition demonstrated a maturing model of locally supported, hands on Internet engineering education.

The camp was structured as an intensive five day immersive program, combining conceptual lectures with extended hands on sessions designed to simulate real world network environments and connect participants to modern infrastructure challenges.

Day 1: Network Deployment The week opened with an icebreaking session that built a collaborative atmosphere before diving into technical work. Participants covered network cabling, device interconnection, IP addressing, VLAN configuration, NAT, and OSPF routing.

Day 2: Network Virtualization Students were introduced to hypervisors and Linux based environments, learning how to design and manage scalable, flexible infrastructure that supports complex networked systems.

Day 3: DNS Setup Guided by experts from the technical community, participants configured DNS systems including secondary servers, deepening their understanding of domain naming infrastructure on the Internet.

Day 4: IoT & Cloud Computing The session connected foundational networking knowledge to real world applications by exploring IoT device deployment and cloud services, demonstrating how infrastructure supports modern digital systems.

Day 5: Industry Visit & Final Presentations The final day took participants to Surabaya, where they visited neuCentrIX Kebalen a neutral cloud and Internet exchange facility gaining insight into operational environments supporting cloud services and Internet interconnection. Participants then delivered their final group presentations showcasing projects built throughout the week.

Following the on site program, teams continued refining their projects remotely, culminating in an online final presentation session on April 22, 2026. For the ICN Lab members, APIE Camp #9 was a rewarding experience that strengthened both technical skills in Internet engineering and lasting connections with peers from across the Asia Pacific region.
