Coming as a fresh topic this year, distributed system made its entrance into our sharing session program with ICN Lab Sharing Session Distributed System. Held on Friday, Nov. 29 2024 at GKM 4.2 with Mirza (Information Tech. 2022) as the instructor, this session covered an all-rounder topic in distributed system: “Integrated web service configuration for MQTT subscription, VictoriaMetrics and Grafana for visualization”.

As distributed systems are currently on the rise, this session introduced not only the basics, but also various case studies and distributed system architectures coupled with guided hands-on. We also touched on key components as follows.

  • Understand the concept, architecture and case implementation of distributed system,
  • Configure MQTT subscription services using DenoJS,
  • Configure VictoriaMetrics as monitoring solution, and
  • Configure Grafana dashboards for IoT sensor data stream.

Continuation is an emphasis, and ICN Lab Sharing Session Distributed System is no exception. The IoT node from the ICN Lab Sharing Session IoT Series fed this session web services in three forms: room temperature, humidity and CO concentration. The session was in full-swing during the hands-on session where audiences from different majors worked in pairs in making their first distributed systems. All in all, this session provides a comprehensive experience from understanding the concepts of distributed systems, implementing open-source solutions and watching the dashboard come to life.
