Aligned with the spirit of Tri-Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, ICN Laboratory FILKOM UB presents ‘ICN Lab Sharing Session’ as a new addition to the lab’s scheduled program lineup. ICN Lab Sharing Session series offers comprehensive, theoretical and practical workshop sessions for registered FILKOM students. As the opener, IoT series sharing sessions were conducted mid-year in the span of 2 volumes: ‘IoT Basics Vol. 01’ and ‘IoT Basics Vol. 02’.
ICN Lab Sharing Session IoT Basics Vol. 01
The first volume of ICN Lab Sharing Sessions IoT Basics came full-swing on Friday, Aug 23rd 2024 at GKM 3.1 with Archie (Information Tech. 2022) as the instructor. This session covered key topics in IoT design and implementation as follows.
- Understand the concept of Internet-of-Things (IoT) and its current implementation in the industry,
- Design and build IoT sensing node with two sensors: DHT-11 and MQ2 for temperature, humidity and CO concentration monitoring,
- Send IoT sensor data to Blynk IoT platform for visualization over HTTP protocol, and
- Manual calibration experience of the sensors.
As excitement grew, all seats filled-up by FILKOM students coming from different majors and interests in mind. During the session, audiences worked in pairs to design and build their first IoT systems from the ground up.
ICN Lab Sharing Sessions IoT Basics Vol. 02
The second session of ICN Lab Sharing Sessions of IoT Basics served as a continuation of the previous session, held on Friday, Oct. 4 2024 at F4.9 with Tiara (Informatics Eng. 2022) as the instructor. This session introduced new topics in IoT design and implementation while still providing relevancy from the previous session as follows.
- Understanding modes and communication protocols for IoT/WSN system,
- Design and build IoT sensing node with two sensors; DHT-11 and MQ2 for temperature, humidity and CO concentration monitoring,
- Configure Mosquitto MQTT broker and Node-RED IoT Platform server,
- Send IoT sensor data to Node-RED utilizing MQTT communication protocol over Mosquitto, and
- Visualize IoT data using Node-RED Dashboard.
Altogether, ICN Lab Sharing Sessions IoT Basics series offered an A-to-Z experience in IoT system design and deployment utilizing novel technologies and lightweight communication.
